Grocery Shopping in the Time of COVID-19
With stores limiting the number of customers, shopping just got more difficult. The toilet paper hoarders are stocked up, but lines are forming outside of Trader Joes and Albertsons. Stores are adjusting their hours and adding special shopping hours for senior. Most stores offer online shopping, with pickup at the store. Order online, select a pickup time, go to the designated pickup spot in the parking lot, call the number, and your order is delivered to your car. When shopping for pickup, be sure you are on the page for the correct store. Here are ways to ease the pain.
If the delivery company is not already doing so, Consumer Reports recommends asking the delivery person to leave packages on the doorstep in the delivery instructions and tipping electronically to ensure the utmost safety.
Kaune’s delivers Monday – Friday and you can call in your order for pickup or delivery, 505.982.2629. Kaune’s is opening on Sunday, 8am-1pm for seniors. $5 fee for pickup orders. Call by 11:00 a.m. for same-day delivery. Deliveries leave the store between 11am-noon. $10 delivery in town, additional fees for out of town.
Albertsons & Market Street
From 7 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, the company is reserving time for "those vulnerable shoppers who must leave home to obtain their groceries, unless otherwise locally mandated.”

Smith's will be reserving an hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to solely the shopping needs of senior citizens. Stores will have special hours for seniors from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Shop online and pickup at the designated spot in the parking lot. The first three pickup orders are free currently, but the minimum order is $30. Smiths offers delivery through Instacart.
Whole Foods stores will start serving customers who are 60 and older an hour before opening to the public. Online ordering, pickup, and delivery are currently not available at the Cerrillos store. Amazon Pantry is always an online option.
Sprouts, Natural Grocers and others offer delivery through Instacart.
Shop online, delivery through Instacart. There is a flat fee, depending on the time of day and a service fee, this is a variable fee that will be more or less depending on the total cost of your order. The minimum service fee is $3.99 no matter what you order, otherwise it is 5% of your order total.
