New Mexico Conference on Aging

At the New Mexico Conference on Aging at Isleta Resort and Casino, August 23rd, Cabinet Secretary Myles Copeland recognized Villages of Santa Fe as one of the three operating villages in New Mexico. In a break out session of the conference, Villages of Santa Fe was presented as a way to provide needed services now and in the future. As Secretary Copeland explained to the session, ‘The resources for services is not going to grow in proportion to the aging population.’ New Mexico is predicted to be the 4th oldest state (proportionally) by 2030.

Sheila Doran-Benyon and Ann Church presented the film Cyber Seniors at a break out session at the conference. A humorous and heartwarming feature documentary, Cyber Seniors adds to the important international conversation about the growing generation gap. Focusing on a group of senior citizens who take their first steps into cyber-space under the tutelage of teenage mentors, the film expertly renders a thought-provoking look at a spirited group of men and women who are enriched by digitally re-connecting with their families and each other. This is the second year Sheila and Ann have presented at the conference.

The Cyber Senior program begins September 22nd at Prep. See information in the newsletter to reserve your spot.
